Go to www.google.com/adwords, log in and press the “Try Adwords now” button (top right).  Select the Standard edition.  On the next screen select the “I have an email address . . . . “  Unless you have a reason not to select the first choice on the next question, login and the next screen is your currency choice which defaults to pounds sterling.  Your Adwords is set up.
